William Boyes
William (“Bill”) was born in Barnet in 1949 and has lived in the town for most of his life. His father, grandfather and great grandfather were solicitors who practised from 20 Wood St, which was also the family home until the 1950s.
Bill has had a very close connection with Hadley Common since he joined Monken Hadley Cricket Club in the mid-60s. After hanging up his pads, he has continued to assist with the maintenance and improvement of the ground at the west end of the Common.
He became the Clerk to the Churchwardens, the then owners of the Common, in October 2000 and remained in post until MHCT took ownership on 1st December 2022. Bill was responsible on behalf of the Churchwardens for the instruction of and liaison with the Parliamentary Agents who lodged the Monken Hadley Common Bill in November 2019 and took it through to Royal Assent on 28th April 2022.
For more than 7 years he has been a weekly member of the volunteers who look after the Common. On behalf of the Trust he is responsible for the application to DEFRA for the approval of regulations to govern use of the Common by the public.
Finally, Bill is a member of the local Ramblers Group and the Open Spaces Society.
